ACFE SA Professional Standards

The ACFE South Africa (ACFE SA) Professional Standards are developed to provide clear, locally relevant guidance for forensic practitioners operating within the South African legal and regulatory environment. Led by the Forensic Standards Forum, these standards aim to promote consistency, credibility and scientific rigour in forensic investigations conducted in support of both criminal and civil proceedings.

In a landscape where practitioners often rely on international frameworks, ACFE SA bridges the gap by aligning global best practices with South African legislation, legal systems, and investigative realities. The standards are designed to support forensic investigators, fraud examiners, and digital forensic specialists in applying accepted methodologies that meet local compliance and evidentiary requirements.

ACFE SA plays a leading role in advancing professional standards across all forensic disciplines involved in investigations, ensuring that practitioners are equipped with practical, relevant and defensible procedures. While international standards remain valuable, adaptation is essential to reflect the unique challenges and legal context of South Africa and the broader African region.

Although the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) focuses on Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs), it recognises the strong interrelationship with the broader forensic community. The Forensic Standards Forum, therefore, incorporates expertise across multiple forensic disciplines, fostering collaboration and strengthening the overall integrity of forensic practice in South Africa.
